Merge Duplicate Organizations
Goal: Combine two records that are really the same organization into one, moving all of its giving and people onto the record you keep.
Find likely duplicates
Open Constituents → Organizations. If Omnivo detects organizations that share an EIN or a normalized name, a Potential duplicates panel appears at the top of the list, grouped by what they have in common. Each entry shows the organization's gift and people counts so you can decide which one to keep. Click any organization to open it.
Merge two organizations
- Open the organization you want to keep (the "master").
- Click Merge duplicate.
- Search for and select the duplicate to merge in. The dialog reminds you what will move: donations, recurring gifts, sponsorships, corporate groups, and affiliations.
- Confirm. The duplicate's records are re-parented onto the organization you kept, and the duplicate is deactivated.
Merging cannot be undone. The duplicate is deactivated (not deleted), but its donations, sponsorships, and other records permanently move to the organization you keep. Double-check you're keeping the correct master first.
Cleaning up legacy duplicates in bulk
If your affiliate accumulated duplicate organizations before this feature existed (for example, gifts recorded under slightly different company names), an administrator can run a one-time cleanup that previews every duplicate cluster and, once reviewed, collapses them automatically — keeping the richest record as the master. Ask your Omnivo administrator if you suspect a large backlog of duplicates.
Merging people, not organizations
Duplicate person records (a volunteer who is also a donor under a second email, for example) have their own merge flow with field-by-field control — see Merge Duplicate Constituents.
