Manage a Store
Each store has its own page. Open Point of Sale → Store Management and click a store's row (or the Manage Store button at the end of the row). The page has four tabs: Overview, Registers, Devices and Reports. The Edit, Receipts and Account mapping buttons at the top open the same dialogs the list offers.
Overview
The first tab is the store at a glance:
- Today's net sales and the cash / card split for today.
- Registers: how many of the store's registers a device currently holds.
- Open drawers: drawer sessions open right now.
- Devices: active card readers out of the store's total.
Below that, each register with who holds it and when it was last seen, and each card reader with the registers it serves. Manage and Details jump to the matching tab.
Registers
A register is something the store defines; a device (an iPad or a browser) holds it, one device at a time. The register's name is on every sale, drawer session and cashier sign-in it makes, which is what makes per-register reporting possible.
The table shows each register's kind (iPad or browser, from the device that registered it), who holds it and when that device was last seen, the card reader bound to it, whether its drawer is open and who opened it, and its status.
Actions, from the ⋯ menu on each row (store managers and admins):
- Add Register (top right) defines a register before any device claims
it, with a Kind: iPad (the default) or Browser (web station).
Only an iPad register can take a Bluetooth card reader, so the kind
matters when a reader is bound before any device has claimed the
register; the device that claims it sets the kind from what it is. A
register's name is any text up to 50 characters, like
front-1orDonations desk; the name-number form of the default names is a habit, not a rule. Names are unique at the store regardless of capital letters, soFrontandfrontare the same name. An iPad or browser then picks the register the first time it opens the store. - Rename… changes the register's name, under the same naming rule. Its history follows it: a report that spans the rename shows one line, with the old name noted. A rename is refused while the register's drawer is open; close the drawer first.
- Card reader… binds one of the store's readers to the register, or unbinds it. Card payments from the register go to the bound reader and nowhere else. A Bluetooth reader (PAX D135) is offered to iPad registers only. See Set Up the Register.
- Release device clears the device holding the register so another device can claim it. Use it when an iPad is lost, replaced or reinstalled. The released device's next request is refused until it picks a register again; the register's cart, drawer session and cashier stay with the register for its next holder.
- Retire takes the register out of service. No device can claim a retired register, and its name stays reserved so old reports keep reading right. A retire is refused while the register's drawer is open or a cashier is signed in. A retired register can be reactivated from the same menu.
When the server refuses an action, the message says why (for example, "close the drawer first" or "that name is already used at this store").
Devices
A read-only view of the store's card readers: model, state and the registers each one is bound to. A countertop reader may serve several registers; a Bluetooth reader serves one iPad register and the tab shows whether its payment key is active. Bindings are changed from the Registers tab. Activation, moving a reader to another store and removing it happen in Payment Devices, one click away.
Moving a reader to another store, or deactivating it, unbinds it from every register here. A Bluetooth reader's payment key is disabled at the same time, so a lost reader can't keep taking payments.
Reports
The ranged sales summary, scoped to this store. Pick a period (today, yesterday, this or last week or month, year to date, or a custom range) and All registers or one register. The report runs as soon as the choice changes:
- Totals: gross, returns, net, tax, collected, transaction count.
- Tenders: cash, card and other, with counts. These use the same definition as the end-of-day closeout and the register close slip, so the numbers tie out across all three.
- By Register: one line per register with the same split. A register stays one line across a rename, with its former name noted. Sales rung before a register was set up show as "No register".
- Drawer Sessions: sessions in the period per register, how many closed and how many were still open, over/short, and the net cash each register's sessions took.
CSV, PDF and Print export the report as shown. End-of-day closeout opens the closeout for a chosen date, and Transactions opens the transaction list already filtered to the store and, if one was chosen, the register.
Point of Sale on or off
The store's Edit dialog has a Point of Sale switch in place of the old terminal count. Turn it off for a store that doesn't ring sales (a warehouse, a drop-off site), and its registers and card readers don't run there. Registers are added from this page, not counted in advance.
