Meet Event Requirements

Goal: Get the prerequisites done so you can register for the events you want, without finding out at the last minute that something's missing.

What "requirements" means

A requirement is a prerequisite your affiliate has set — usually for safety, liability, or eligibility reasons. Examples:

  • Volunteer orientation
  • Build site safety training
  • Background check
  • Minimum age
  • Driver's license verification (for events where you'd drive a vehicle)

Each event lists which requirements apply. Some are mandatory (you can't register without them); some are optional but encouraged.

See where you stand

Your My Requirements page shows:

  • The requirements your affiliate has defined
  • Which you've completed and which are still open
  • Anything pending review (you submitted, but a coordinator hasn't approved yet)
  • Anything expiring soon (so you can renew before it lapses)

Check this page before any event registration so you know what to address.

Completing a requirement

How you complete depends on the requirement:

  • Self-attestation — you mark yourself as having completed it
  • Document upload — you upload proof (a license photo, a signed waiver, a training certificate)
  • Coordinator-recorded — you do the thing in real life (attend orientation, take the safety class), and a coordinator records it

Whichever applies, the next step appears as a clear action on the requirement.

What to do if you're blocked

If you can't register because of a missing requirement:

  • Open My Requirements to see exactly what's outstanding
  • Submit or schedule the missing piece
  • Once it's recorded, your eligibility updates automatically

If you've submitted something and it's still pending after a few days, reach out to your affiliate's volunteer coordinator.

Renewals

Some requirements expire (background checks, certifications). When yours is approaching expiration, you'll see a warning on My Requirements and a reminder by email. Renew before it lapses to avoid losing eligibility for events you'd otherwise qualify for.
